Ms. C. Carter
From the first time I entered the building, it was clearly evident that Sarah Smith Elementary was a remarkable neighborhood and diverse community school with amazing teachers, students, and parents. I am thrilled to be working with such a dynamic team of educators and supportive parents. My goal is to promote an optimal learning environment and high student achievement for all of my students. I look forward to meeting each of you as we begin this exciting journey of rigorous instruction and sustainable success. Prior to working at Sarah Smith and Atlanta Public Schools, I taught third and fourth grades in Fulton County for 12 years and later served as a Curriculum Support Teacher and SST/504 Chairperson for elementary teachers (K-5). I earned my Bachelor of Science in Child Development and Family Relations/Early Childhood Education and my Master of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. During my teaching career, I have received Teacher of the Year honors, and I have acquired certifications for teaching Gifted and Talented students, English language learners, and for serving as a Teacher Support Specialist. My highest honor was being named a Georgia Master Teacher by Governor Nathan Deal in 2011 based on demonstrated excellence in student achievement and student growth. I am honored to have served as the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year for Sarah Smith and as a 2015-2016 APS District Teacher of the Year Semifinalist. I also had the pleasure of serving on our school's inaugural Go Team as an elected faculty representative, where I was instrumental in helping to make instructional decisions that affected our students and our school. You can count on me to always go above and beyond to ensure that our students have the tools they need to be successful as 21st century learners.
Though I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, I have been in Atlanta long enough to call it my home. When I am not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, as well as reading, watching the NBA playoffs (Go LBJ!), shopping, traveling, listening to great music, and enjoying awesome concerts. I live in the city of Atlanta, and I love taking in all of the city sights and attractions that Atlanta has to offer. I am looking forward to a successful school year this year and for many more years to come.
